Abandoned Building: Farm Complex

June 12th, 2011

Location: South Jersey

Status: Awesome (and still there)

Alright I stumbled upon this place with my girlfriend Amanda while heading to a diner. We put in the diner’s address, it took us to an abandoned farm complex…not a bad trade off. I’ve been meaning to write this article for about two months now but haven’t been on top of it like I should have. This complex probably has 8 or 9 barns, 2 Silos and a house.  It’s one of the bigger abandoned places we’ve found in a while, and pretty cool. It’s location is pretty much by itself for about half a mile in each direction so we didn’t have to worry about dodging anyone.

We checked out all the buildings and we’re not sure what type of farm it was, maybe you can tell from the pictures. It did have a building full of all old books, and the one barn was collapsed from god knows what. The house on the property did have all sorts of old rolling stones magazines and die hard movies on vhs which shows it was left untouched for a while. The dead raccoon in the basement was a nice touch, as well as the license plates in the refrigerator. I wish I could tell you guys more but quiet frankly I waited too long to write this and can’t remember. Here’s a look at the rest of the pictures, hope you enjoy. Till next time!

Abandoned Building: Ruins of an Old Home

January 6th, 2011

Location: New Jersey

Status: Ruins are still there

This place I found actually had two buildings on it, both of which were hollow shells. My girlfriend Amanda and I stumbled across these buildings while looking for another structure, the Haunted House, I last posted about.  This site waspretty cool because it was old.  I walked around the buildings and noticed there were also sheds and other small dwellings, but ivy had over taken these structures and they were barely noticeable. Check out the rest of the pictures I took of these abandoned buildings, below.

Abandoned Building: Haunted House on the Corner

January 6th, 2011

Location: New Jersey

Status: Still there, extremely run down with holes in floors and ceilings.

You couldn’t ask for a better creepy looking, abandoned house then this one! We didn’t have too much time to explore and photograph it but I did manage to get a few good shots. A lot of the floors are caving in and I wouldn’t advise entering this structure at all.  Still though, from the front this house is beautiful, like a haunted house out of an old scary movie. Below is the rest of the pictures I took of this fantastic abandoned building.

Abandoned Building: Lucky’s House Along Delsea Drive

December 25th, 2010

Location: Highway 55, New Jersey

Status: still there, but looks like they’re soon to be demolished

We’ll call this lucky’s house. This house was the first of four abandoned houses we explored on Delsea Drive. On the property was 2 dwellings; a garage and a two story house with an attic.

The first room we encountered in the house was the kitchen, with draws thrown open and everything left a mess. We then walked into the foyer and the living room, which was suprisingly not destroyed at all, just barren. We headed up stairs to the 2nd floor and found our first oddity; the mirror had a crazy eye painted on it with the word “lucky” underneath and what looked like blood in the sink, which turned out to be red candle wax.The other rooms had some pretty cool drawings on the walls. Clowns and sticks figures hanging themselves, interesting stuff.

In one of the rooms, there was an entrance to the attic so we headed up. It was completely empty except for an old record player, at least thats what it looked like. After leaving the attic, we went downstairs and into the basement. It was messy, but nothing too interesting. It consisted of a heater and a few rooms, with paper scattered all over the floor. All in all, pretty cool place.

Abandoned Building Next to Animal Shelter

December 24th, 2010

Location: Camden County, New Jersey

Status: Still there, although infested with cats

I’ve known about this place for years now and still can’t figure out what it is. If you’re not careful, you could drive right past it and never see it from the road, that’s how overgrown it is outside the front of it.

Upon parking, Dan and I headed to the side of the fenced in structure. I walked over a dirt pile and almost stumbled across the carcass of a newly killed deer; what killed it, I’m not sure.

Along the fence, where a tree had fell, is where we got in. Once we got in we immediately noticed at least half a dozen deer freaking out. Apparently the way we got in was also the only way out, and these deer were going nuts.

Once all the deer nonsense settled down, we walked around the structure. In the back you could see an improvised cat shelter set up. With an animal shelter less then a hundred yards away, it’s safe to say they’re putting the extra cats there.

We didn’t have enough time to enter the structure, we weren’t missing anything. I was in there a year before. It just has a decaying, nauseating smell to it; we weren’t missing out on anything.

Below is all the pictures I took of this building.

Abandoned Building: Camden County Center for Addictive Diseases

December 22nd, 2010

Location: Camden County, New Jersey

Status: Still there, although attached to a working building.

I stumbled across this not-too-well-known treasure in Camden County, New Jersey about 4 years ago, and today my buddy Dan and I decided to head back to the old place and get some pictures, something we didn’t do the first time we were in there. This building is right on a busy road, and located near a sheriff’s station, so be warned.

We walked around the building and took some pics, then headed up a vine covered stairwell to find the door was open! This was good news compared to before when we’d have to go in through the basement window with 2 inches of water on the ground.

We walked the old hallways of the top floor, examining the deteriorating walls and stripped floors. We went to the end of the hall and found my favorite part of the building, “the ivy room”. As you can expect, this room is completely filled with ivy and makes for a beautiful picture. The room next to it contained drawn cartoons on the walls.

We turned around and walked back down the hallway till we reached a ladder that headed up into the attic.

Dan climbing into the attic

The attic is pretty bare, minus a few old containers and pigeon and bat crap everywhere. Walking to the middle of the attic, you’ll find a step stool that’ll lead you into the elevator control room, and hence atop the highest part of the structure.

After having our fill of the attic we headed down the latter and down the stairs to the first floor.

This floor, unlike the top floor, is crammed with stuff; old desks, mattress, blueprints of the town (must be storage) and other random objects. In one room we found old video wheels, and directions on how to prevent rats. We proceeded next to the basement which up until then, had always been flooded and not walkable. Well now a pump was situated down in the dark shadows and it lay dry.

We clicked our only flashlight on and moved room to room. The basement gave of an eery, yet interesting appeal. It’s heavy, steal doors were rusted over, some of them not even attached, and a lot of the rooms had streaks of light coming through the broken windows. The sweetest thing about the basement was the old, grate-style elevator door that lay sitting at the glass elevator doorway. Although we couldn’t open the door, we could still see the old piece of equiptment, lying dormant.

Grate-Style Elevator

On our way out we saw one last thing; the skeleton of cat, laying stretched out on the floor next to the last step.

There's Fluffy!...

This place always has a suprise when I check in on it.

Here are all the pictures I took at this building, enjoy!

This place is fascinating.

Abandoned Building: Trenton Houses

December 15th, 2010

Location:Trenton, New Jersey

Status: Still There

While investigating Trenton State Hospital, which has parts abandoned but is largely still being used, my girlfriend and I stumbled across a dead end street with a bunch of houses that were all boarded up. Naturally, we had to check it out. I’m assuming these buildings had once been used by the hospital, but I’m not quiet sure. It was an eerie feeling, all those houses abandoned. Some of them were collapsing from the inside, and it smelled horrible.

Abandoned Building: Amanda’s House

December 15th, 2010

Location: New Jersey

Status: Still There

This place was exceptionally cool. It has two structures, a barn (which I for some reason didn’t take a picture of…) and a house. It also has what looks like collapsing farm buildings and foundations. On one of the walls is the message “Amanda be my girlfriend” therefore I’ve righteously named this place Amanda’s House.

This place was pretty big, with interesting stuff all over the property.
